Overview
The mission of the SkillsUSA - Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (SkillsUSA-VICA) is to provide quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. SkillsUSA-VICA builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills. It emphasizes total quality at work, high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education and pride in the dignity of work. SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service activities.
Membership
The SkillsUSA - Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (SkillsUSA-VICA) is open to students pursuing Career Majors in the following Clusters:
- Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources
- Hospitality & Tourism
- Manufacturing
- Transportation, Distribution, & Logistics

Manufacturing Students Place at State Contest

Two Northwest Technology Center students from the Fairview campus recently placed at the state SkillsUSA contest. Kenny Daykin, placed sixth in the State Welding contest and Henry Wall placed fourth in the State Automotive Technology Contest.
Auto Technology and Auto Collision Students Place at State Contest

Colby Thrash placed sixth is the state SkillsUSA Auto Service Technology contest held recently. Thrash is enrolled in the Automotive Technology program at Northwest Technology Center. Thrash is pictured on
the front row on the far right. Other NWTC students who attended the state contest included Cody Rader and Seth Haltom. Ron Rader is the instructor for the program.

Shay Lehr placed fourth in the Auto Paint and Refinishing competition at the recent state SkillsUSA Contest. Lehr is a student in the Auto Collision Technology program at Northwest Technology Center. Lehr is pictured on the front row in the center. Another Auto Collision student, Zac Smart also attended the SkillsUSA competition and participated in the Collision Repair event. Jeff Owen is the instructor for the program.
Students Place at SkillsUSA Regional Contest

Three SkillsUSA members from NW Tech’s Fairview campus placed at the Regional SkillsUSA Contest. Michael Shipman placed 2nd in Small Engine Parts ID and qualified for State. He also placed 6th in Job Interview. Alfonso Rojas placed 4th in Small Engine Parts ID and Adam Hicks placed 4th in Tool ID. Pictured left to right are Adam Hicks, Michael Shipman, and Alfonso Rojas. ProStart Students Place Second at State Contest
The Northwest Technology Center ProStart Management Team placed 2nd at the State ProStart Culinary Invitational held at Sysco Foods in Norman February 25-26. Team Members consisting of Jill Bollig, Bryant Jackson, and Sarah Loss each received the silver medal, a $1,500 scholarship to Platt Culinary College, and a $750 scholarship to Johnson & Wales Culinary Institute. The team’s concept “J’s Diner” competed against culinary programs from across the state.

The team participated in the management contest where they developed a business proposal for a new restaurant concept. The business proposal consisted of a defined restaurant concept, supporting menu, and supporting marketing plan. Teams had to prepare a comprehensive written proposal, verbal presentation and visual display. Teams were tested on their critical thinking skills by reacting to potential management challenges related to their concept. Their performance during the event was observed and rated by judges from the foodservice industry and colleges and universities.
Students Place at District Skills-USA Competition
Four students from Northwest Technology Center’s Alva Campus recently placed at the district automotive technology contest. Ky Liggenstoffer placed sixth in the secondary division. Colby Thrash placed first in the post-secondary division. Cody Rader placed third in the secondary division and Seth Haltom placed second in the secondary division.
