Fall 2007 Short Term Classes Start Soon
Alva Campus Highlights
Financial Peace University highlights a lineup of more than a dozen Adult Training and Development classes offered this fall at Northwest Technology Center in Alva.
Taught by Charlotte Hadwiger, Financial Peace is a 13-week program that encourages positive financial behavior with accountability and support. The course teaches financial responsibility by helping participants eliminate debt, training them to spend every dollar on paper, and empowering those facing financial hardships by establishing a plan to take control of their finances. The course is recommended for both couples and singles.
A number of classes in areas ranging from cooking and photography to landscaping and interior design are also available during the fall semester.
German Cooking- Café Bahnhof Style is a class in which participants are sure to experience German cooking at its finest. Taught by Dieter Dorner at the Café Bahnhof in Waynoka, students will learn to prepare the authentic German dishes passed down through generations that have made Café Bahnhof famous. Participants are encouraged to bring their appetites as they’ll enjoy eating each session’s prepared dishes.
For those looking to improve and expand their communications skills, Conversational Spanish and Signing Exact English courses are available. Conversational Spanish is designed to help students develop basic conversational skills in Spanish, while the Sign Language course introduces basic signs, phrases, and word combinations and teaches the skills needed to communicate with the hearing impaired.
For individuals looking to use their hands for building or remodeling rather than talking, Ceramic Tiling, Landscaping, and Fuel Injection Theory are available.
The Fuel Injection Theory course provides instruction concerning all areas of the various EFI systems used in today’s high-tech vehicles. Throughout the class, students receive both classroom instruction and live practice.
In his landscaping course, Tom Crenshaw of Crenshaw’s Nursery promises to help homeowners discover what grows well in northwest Oklahoma and what doesn’t. Those hoping to develop a green thumb will learn how, when and where to plant trees, shrubs and grasses as well as tips on how to care for existing plants and trees.
Ceramic Tiling teaches participants how to layout, cut, and set tile so they might save costs on their next home improvement project. The course includes hands-on instruction in all areas of the tiling process including the adhesives, procedures, and tools needed for floor, wall, and bath tile projects.
After completing Ceramic Tiling or Landscaping, many people are interested in moving to the next step of home renovation- interior decorating. In her Designing on a Dime course, Marsha Hendrix gives participants on a budget tips and tricks to transform their houses using ordinary household items and garage sale bargains.
