NWTC Foundation

History

The Northwest Technology Center Foundation was founded in 1991 by several friends of Career and Technology Education. The Foundation is a 5013c and all contributions are tax deductible. Student scholarships, teacher grants, and leadership development activities are supported by foundation funds.

Activities Supported

Leadership Development
The NWTC Foundation supports the Superintendent's Leadership Class. The class provides leadership development training for its members through monthly seminars and activities designed to prepare students to become future leaders.

Student Scholarships
Each year a portion of the monies raised by the Foundation will go to support scholarships for deserving students. This financial assistance may include books, tuition, and other educational costs. The Foundation Scholarship committee assists in the establishment of scholarships and the selection of the recipients.

Getting Involved

The NWTC Foundation invites all students, former students, parents, staff and friends to be involved in its activities. An individual may choose to purchase a lifetime membership for $250 or an annual membership for $25. Corporatate partners may choose to purchase a lifetime membership for $1000 or an annual membership for $100. Members in good standing are allowed to vote at the Foundation's annual meeting and are offered the opportunity to hold office on the Board of Trustees if elected by the membership. All members are encouraged to participate in the annual golf tournament and to serve on various committees which support the NWTC Foundation activities. The Foundation uses donations and dues to support leadership development activities, provide scholarships, and to provide a source of income for school activities which are not in the scope of the institution's general fund.

Golf Tournament Planned

The Northwest Technology Center Foundation will host its annual golf tournament Saturday, June 26, 2010, at the Alva Country Club.

NWTC Foundation Awards Scholarships at Alva Campus

Nine students from NWTC's Alva campus received scholarships from the Northwest Technology Center Foundation at the recent Advisory Committee Luncheon.   Pictured are:  (front row l to r) Amber Jennings, Kimberly Green, Skye Lauminick, (back row l to r) Susan Parent, Michael Strickland, Kassidy Stricker, Lacey Gaisford, Clydene Lyons and Ben Kreiman.

The Northwest Technology Center Foundation recently awarded $3600 in scholarships to fourteen deserving students from the Alva and Fairview campuses. This financial assistance helps with books, tuition and other educational costs. The awards at the Alva campus were presented by Freelin Roberts, Superintendent, Jane Bowen, Assistant Superintendent, and Representatives of the Northwest Technology Center Foundation.

The Dr. Dan Shorter Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Amber Jennings, who is enrolled in the Health Careers Certification program. Her goal is to become a Registered Nurse .  The scholarship is given in memory of Dr. Dan Shorter, who was a member of the NWTC Board of Education for more than 30 years.

The Littlefield-Sargent scholarship was awarded to Benjamin Kreiman.  A native of Cherokee, Kreiman is enrolled in the Auto Collision Program.  He hopes to own a restoration shop in the future. The award was given in memory of Aline R. Littlefield Sargent and George W. Littlefield, Jr. 

The recipient of the Grace Investment Co. Scholarship was Susan Parent, who is enrolled in the Business and Information Technology Program. This scholarship was given by the Grace Investment Co., which is the holding company for Alva State Bank and the First Bank of Okeene.

The Roberts Scholarship, given by the Freelin and Doris Roberts, was awarded to Lacey Gaisford. Lacy is enrolled in the Business and Information Technology program. She is working on the Administrative Assistant Career Major.

The Health Careers scholarship is given by Chris and Tara Thomas to an outstanding student who is pursuing a career in the health care industry.  The year?s recipient was Kimberly Green.  She hopes to pursue a career as a dental hygienist.

The Marthan Carroll Memorial Scholarship was awarded for the first time this year to two students.  Mrs. Carroll was long-time resident of Waynoka and was interested in creating scholarships for deserving students from that area. The recipients were Kassidy Stricker, a student in the Health Careers Certification Program and Michael Strickland, a student in the Web Development and Graphic Design Program.

Each year the Northwest Technology Center Foundation awards scholarships to students from both campuses from its general fund. The recipients from the Alva campus were Clydene Lyons and Skye Lauminick, who are both enrolled in the Business and Information Technology Program.

 

NW Tech Foundation Awards Scholarships to Students at Fairview Campus

Five students who attend Northwest Technology Center's (NWTC) Fairview campus were presented with scholarships at NWTC's Advisory Committee luncheon held Friday. Gerald Harris, NWTC's Assistant Superintendent on the Fairview campus and Freelin Roberts, NWTC's Superintendent presented several of the scholarships on behalf of the Northwest Technology Center Foundation Board of Trustees.

Receiving the Kirtley Scholarship was Grace Broomfield of Ringwood.  This scholarship is provided each year by Judy Kirtley of Chester and Garen and Vicky Ewbanks of Fairview. It is presented to a student in the Business, Web and Graphic design program.

Theran Hegwood of Fairview received the Roberts Family Scholarship. Hegwood is enrolled in the Automotive Technology program at NWTC. The Roberts Family scholarship is made available each year by Freelin and Doris Roberts and their family.

Katherine Gard was the recipient of the Grace Investment Co. Scholarship. Gard is the first recipient of this award. She is a student in the Business, Web and Graphic Design program and is from Fairview. The Grace Investment Company is the holding organization for Alva State Bank (Alva, Enid and Burlington) and the First National Bank of Okeene.

Two students received scholarships from the Northwest Technology Center Foundation.  They were Laci Seabourn of Fairview and Mary Alice Edwards of Chester.  Both students are enrolled in the Business, Web and Graphic Design program.

"This year, our foundation awarded over $3600 to students on the Alva and the Fairview campuses. We were able to assist many students with scholarships and we are looking forward to seeing the dollar figure increase." stated Harris.

The NWTC Foundation was revitalized in early 2003. The Northwest Technology Center Foundation Board of Trustees includes Chris Thomas, President, Pat Nida, Secretary/Treasurer, Garen Ewbank, Pat Warren, Dennis Bushman, and Tom Russell. Ex-officio members include Freelin Roberts, Superintendent, Jane Bowen, Assistant Superintendent-Alva and Gerald Harris, Assistant Superintendent-Fairview.

The foundation has two major areas of focus, leadership development and student scholarships. Scholarships may be endowed and named for a minimum donation of $2500.

Grace Investment Corporation Business Scholarship Established

The Northwest Technology Center Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Grace Investment Corporation Business Scholarship.  This scholarship will be open to Business and Information Technology students on both the Alva and Fairview campuses of Northwest Technology Center.   One scholarship will be awarded on each campus.   The scholarships will begin being awarded in the spring of 2009. 

The Grace Investment Corporation began in the early 1970's as a partnership between Grace V. Wisdom and her three daughters:  Peggy, Diana Sue and Cynthia.  Over the years, it evolved into a family owned corporation.  Since 2000, it has been a holding company for Alva State Bank & Trust Company and the First National Bank of Okeene.   The Board of Directors of Grace Investment Corporation is sensitive to community needs and has initiated this scholarship to attract students in Northwest Oklahoma to pursue business and finance careers.

OIF Funds Total $56,000 for Statewide Grants

Northwest Technology Center (NWTC) Foundation has been awarded a $2,000 Oklahoma Initiative Fund grant from Communities Foundation of Oklahoma. One of three northwest Oklahoma organizations to receive a grant, NWTC Foundation will use these funds to add new scholarships for students.

During the past year, the NWTC Foundation awarded over $3,000 in scholarships at both the Alva and Fairview campuses. This grant, to be matched by the NWTC Foundation, will be used to fill specific student needs in emergency situations as chosen by a committee.

“We are thrilled about this great chance for our foundation to establish a fund which will assist students with academic needs in emergency situations.” stated Cindy Gottsch, NWTC Foundation Board president. “We have had a great relationship with the Communities Foundation for the past four years and we really appreciate the opportunity that this grant provides for our students and our foundation.”

The Oklahoma Initiative Fund is an unrestricted fund that addresses a broad range of current and future needs across the state as determined each year by the CFO Grants Committee. Members of the CFO Grants Committee include April Stobbe, Shawnee; Malinda Berry Fischer, Stillwater; Leslie Rainbolt-Forbes, Oklahoma City; Jim Howard, Tahlequah; Monica McCasland, Duncan; Jeannine Rainbolt, Oklahoma City; and Richard Ryerson, Alva.

Communities Foundation of Oklahoma is a statewide community foundation with the mission of serving donors and charities of non-metropolitan area communities. Managed by Foundation Management, CFO manages over 240 funds including 18 community funds and Women’s Foundation of Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma Educational Technology Trust.
